AMKA@Home Presents:
Making Peace With the Present Moment
A daylong exploration of Kundalini Yoga
And Mindfulness Meditation
June 28, 2008
Whether the present moment is filled with great pain or perfect joy, it is critical that we understand its impermanence. As such, it is a benefit for us to practice cultivating a neutral mind in the face of all things, neither clinging or becoming averse to whatever arises. Our June retreat will focus on using the breath to create space and compassionate awareness. In doing so we can begin to meet all of life’s experiences with grace, new eyes and an open heart.
Our daylong practice consists of Noble Silence, Mindfulness Meditation (sitting and walking) and Kundalini Yoga. Breakfast, lunch and tea will be served.
There is only limited space available for this retreat. Email amkayoga@yahoo.com if you would like to reserve a space. Please note “June Retreat” in the subject heading.
Cost: $65
Retreat Features:
Noble Silence is a technique in which a person refrains from speaking as a way to help quiet the mind and condition the body in the discipline of right speech. By learning to keep from speaking every word that comes up, we can censor or even omit harmful speech, and thus keep from causing harm and suffering to others and ourselves.
Mindfulness involves bringing one’s awareness back (i.e. from the past or the future) into the present moment. By residing more frequently in the present moment, practitioners begin to see both inner and outer aspects of reality. Internally, one sees that the mind is continually chattering with commentary or judgment. By noticing that the mind is continually making commentary, one has the ability to carefully notice those thoughts, seeing them for what they are without aversion, judgment or reaction. Those practicing mindfulness realize that “thoughts are just thoughts”. One is free to release a thought (“let it go”) when one realizes that the thought may not be concrete reality or absolute truth.
Kundalini Yoga is a physical and meditative discipline, which employs dynamic movement to invigorate the body and strengthen the immune, endocrine, and nervous systems. Mantra is woven with the breath to focus the mind and to bring the emotional body under control. Kundalini Yoga is often referred to as the “Yoga of Awareness” because it awakens the innate, unlimited potential that exist within every human being.
